I didn't used to loathe Republicans. Hell, my father was one until he saw the light and switched parties. It was fascinating reading some of his WWII letters to learn that he couldn't stand FDR when he was a young man! Boy, did that ever change, thank goodness! I even voted for a Republican or two way back when. That was when there were some okay Republicans. Now? They go from bad to worse.
So, for the first little bit of right-wing insanity I want to expose, catch this Georgia misogynist who wants to make women prove to the powers that be that their miscarriages weren't self-induced..
H/T Think Progress:
GA GOP Rep. Would Force Women To Prove Miscarriage Happened Naturally Or Face Felony Charges
State Rep. Bobby Franklin of Georgia introduced a bill in his state last week that, if enacted, would require proof that a miscarriage occurred naturally. If a woman can’t prove that her miscarriage–or spontaneous abortion–occurred without intervention, she could face felony charges.
Are you kidding me? From your bio, Bobby, we learn this:Georgia state Rep. Bobby Franklin (R).... has introduced what may be his most offensive and extreme bill yet. Last week he unveiled HB 1, which would, as the parenting blog Babble explains, “require proof that a miscarriage occured naturally.” If proof could not be provided, the mother could face “felony charges”
Pssssst. A little hint, Bobby. We don't have a "biblically" (sic) defined role. If you actually read the Constitution (and not just the parts you like) and you read what our "Founding Fathers" had to say about religion, and if your recall that many of our forebears who came from Great Britain and elsewhere, were fleeing the tyranny of religious oppression & religious rule, you would know that we do not have a "blblically" defined role.
Representative Franklin has been called "the conscience of the Republican Caucus" because he believes that civil government should return to its biblically and constitutionally defined role.
Bobby also wants to legislate how Georgia residents pay their taxes....in U.S. Minted gold or silver coins. Oh yes, his Constitutional Tender Act would mandate any financial transactions with the state be done in gold or silver coins unless a special waiver is granted. Maybe he's gone in with BecKKK on Goldline & there are $ signs in his eyes. Or he's simply paying his master. Who the hell knows. I do know looney-tunes when I hear them though!
Now you're busy trying to further legislate women's bodies. Perhaps you'd like to insist she have a court-appointed witness go to her gyn appointment with her. Yes, your proposed law is that preposterous and that cruel. Speaking for all women I know who've gone through devastating miscarriages, I feel confident that I can speak for each and every one of them when I tell you to go to hell.
